Selena Gomez has taken a step back on her criticism of Justin Bieber and his recent behavior, but apologies may be too late.
The
Come & Get It singer posted a short but contrite message on
Snapchat late Monday night after Justin DELETED his Instagram account
amid the exes heated social media exchange.
Selena
took a more gentle tone as she wrote, 'What I said was selfish and
pointless,' the words appearing in white print against a black

Whether
Justin takes the message to heart and reinstates his Instagram page is
anyone's guess, and still up in the air after a weekend of sniping and
back and forth accusations of cheating.
Selena,
24, clearly rubbed Justin, 22, the wrong way after she criticized his
threats to quit Instagram over haters comments about his new flame,
17-year-old Sofia Richie.
He
threatened to take his Instagram page private if fans didn't curb the
nasty comments about the model and the daughter of Lionel Richie.
Upset: Justin warned his fans he'd
make his Instagram private after a backlash over his photos with rumored
new girlfriend Sofia Richie, pictured in a previous post
But Justin took it a step further on Monday night as he deleted his Instagram account, which had 77.8 million followers.
The
move came moments after the pop star had switched his account to
private, before changing his mind and making his page public again
moments later - and then deleting it entirely.

Setting
the account private would have meant that his posts were still
available for his followers, but he would have had to approve each
individual follow request.
After setting the account to private, Justin was slammed by fans in comments, before he deleted it.
'In the moment you went privat (sic) you lost many fans...' wrote one user, while another added 'and now we are leaving u.'
Another
said the Sorry singer was making 'bad decisions', while others told him
to just disable the comments if he didn't want to deal with fans.
Justin
seemed unperturbed by the row, looking happy and relaxed as he took
part in an ice hockey match in the San Fernando Valley in California on
Monday night.
Will he or won't he? Whether Justin
takes Selena's 'apology' to heart, forgives his fans for hating on Sofia
(pictured with him) and reinstates his Instagram account is anyone's
guess

reactivate it at a later date. Or, they can permanently delete the
account.
Justin's
move came after he asked fans to back off teenage model Sofia following
some unpleasant comments on his Instagram posts of the two of them
together.
He wrote: 'I'm gonna make my Instagram private
if you guys don't stop the hate this is getting out of hand, if you
guys are really fans you wouldn't be so mean to people that I like.'
