After shooting scenes for Mission: Impossible 5 in London's busy Piccadilly Circus, Tom Cruise has moved over to the city's East End for his latest round of filming.

After the sun set over the British capital, the Hollywood actor, 52, was spotted boarding a barge on an east London canal with co-star Simon Pegg, 44, as they kicked off a night shoot on Monday.

Looking dapper in a black suit with a white button-down shirt, Tom was spotted chatting with the camera crew before getting into character with Simon, who was similarly dressed.

Tom reprises his role as Ethan Hunt for the fifth time in the forthcoming movie, which also stars Alec Baldwin, Rebecca Ferguson and Ving Rhames.

The fourth instalment Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol was released in December 2011 and grossed more than $700 million at the box office worldwide.

Besides Great Britain and Austria, the actor has also been filming in Monaco and Morocco.

Last month, Tom was seen shooting scenes in and around London’s Piccadilly Circus tube station.

Despite chilly conditions in the English capital he was in high spirits and could be seen flashing his famous grin during the brief exchange.

With no road closures and only the presence of hand held movie cameras suggesting a shoot was taking place, the actor easily mingled with pedestrians on the busy roundabout, and many seemed oblivious to his presence as they passed by.

Those who did recognise him included a group of police officers, and the four Bobbies were treated to a fun snap with the actor, who stationed himself between them while a passer-by took their picture.

As filming commenced, Tom struck a sombre pose while placing a call from a payphone before making his way past a nearby branch of Gap, shoulders hunched and hands buried deep in his pockets.

The American actor, who removed his quilted jacket while filming scenes, also shot additional footage in a local record shop.

Mission: Impossible 5 is set to be released in the US on December 25.
