My 19-year-old brother died last year': Emotional Mel B hugs Jake Quickenden after he talks about tragedy on X Factor

Mel B looked a little upset after asking one X Factor contestant about his personal life.
When 25-year-old Jake Quickenden performed an upbeat rendition of John Legend's All Of Me, the star told him it wasn't quite working.
She then began to quiz him and asked him if he had ever been through any heartache in his life that could perhaps inspire him to sing with more emotion.

His answer left the former Spice Girl stunned. 'I lost my little brother last September,' he answered. 'He was only 19.'
Taken aback by what she'd heard, Mel then said: 'So you really have been through a tough time.'

Eager to not be seen as though he was selling a sob story, Jake then replied: 'Yeah but everyone has [been through hardship].'
Simon Cowell then stepped into the conversation. After noticing the young hopeful had Say Something by A Great Big World and
Christina Aguilera
on his song list, the music mogul asked him to sing that instead.
The second performance left Cheryl Versini-Fernandez close to tears.

She told him afterwards: 'To have critique like that and then come back with another song and fight for it is really admirable.'
Louis Walsh then added: 'That second song was so emotional. I can see you doing really well.'
With his friends and family waiting outside the audition room in tears, Jake was given four yeses by the judges. 'I admire people who give 100 per cent and you gave that song 101 per cent,' gushed Simon.
Visibly moved by his performance and perhaps feeling a little guilty for pressing into his personal life, Mel then asked for a hug before Jake left the room.
'I feel compelled to give you a hug,' the hard-to-impress judge said. 'Let’s hug it out, brother. You can squeeze me tighter if you want.'

Is she a secret softie? Up until now, Mel has been harder to impress than Simon, but that all changed when she met this hopeful

X Factor fans may recognise Jake as he has been on the show in the past.
In 2012, he made it all the way to the judges' houses but was sent home by his mentor Nicole Scherzinger because she didn't think he was quite ready at the time.
Two years later, Jake says: 'This is my last chance. I'm back to smash it. If I do it then happy days. If not, I guess I'll have to get a real job.'
His new biggest fan: Hopefully if Jake gets through to the judges' houses, he'll be in Mel's group
