Nicole Scherzinger 'devastated and heartbroken' after she and Lewis Hamilton end their romance... as pictures emerge of pair's awkward pre-split holiday

They confirmed on Monday that they have ended their relationship after five years together.
But it seems that Nicole Scherzinger and Lewis Hamilton had been having trouble in their romance for a few months, judging by pictures of the pair on holiday prior to their split.
The pair looked awkward and distant on vacation in Capri, Italy, at the end of May.

Lewis is seen walking ahead of Nicole, with his head down and his hands in his pockets, while the former Pussycat Dolls star keeps a tight hold of her dog Roscoe's lead.
Nicole has maintained a Twitter silence since the news of her and Lewis' split broke, but the 34-year-old singer is said to be 'devastated' following the end of the relationship.
A source told Mail Online: 'Nicole is just so heartbroken and completely devastated.'

The split was particularly painful for Nicole given that Lewis, 28, had hinted he was thinking of proposing in an interview just a few weeks ago.
He had said: 'We’ve been together for five years, which is quite a milestone really. But hopefully in the near future. Maybe before we get to six years.'
But it was the pair's incredible busy work schedules which led to their split, with their various commitments meaning they didn't see each other as much as they wanted.

A source told the Daily Mirror: 'They're both very happy people and have been forced to spend a lot of time apart. Sometimes they would barely see each other for weeks on end. It was hard to keep the relationship going from afar.
'Who knows whether things might change in a year's time. They do still love each other, but they are not together as it stands.'
Nicole has regularly been seen supporting Lewis at his various Grand Prix commitments, but admitted previously she is only there for her beau, rather than knowing anything about the sport as a whole.

She said: 'I only go to a Grand Prix to support Lewis. I am in awe of Formula One because there is so much money, technology and talent, but as for the racing, it really is like trying to understand rocket science when I’m there, trackside.

‘For me there’s only ever one winner and a lot of people would agree with me on that – Lewis is the best.'
But since recommitting to the X Factor this year, Nicole has been kept busy with auditions in locations including Glasgow, Dublin and London, while Lewis has been concentrating on his racing career.
The last time the couple were pictured together was at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal on June 10th.
Since then, Nicole has gone solo at various events including Wimbledon and the Summer Music Festival in Rome, Italy, where she put on a stunning performance last week.

Nicole and Lewis met at the European Music Awards in Munich in November 2007, before going public at the Monaco Grand Prix six months later.
In July 2011 there was unconfirmed speculation the couple had become engaged.
The couple briefly split in January 2010 when they had been together for 20 months, before later reconciling.
Nicole and Lewis then split again in late 2011, before giving their relationship another go in early 2012.
Nicole is expected to make an appearance at the X Factor auditions in Cardiff later this week.
